East Coast, 2007
So yes, the trip. Despite my silence on the subject, we had a rather lovely time. It was quite exhausting (I am officially too old for road trips, I think) and there were quite a few bumps to overcome --we really did mean to rent bicycles, if only we could have found someone willing to rent them-- but aside from that, I enjoyed myself thoroughly.
Our very first picture, taken in Moncton, because, seriously, who does that?
Our b&b in Charlottetown. I know.
It gets better, though, because this was my *personal* study.
We ate at the place with the green umbrellas.
Green Gables, which was... an emotional journey. Let's not talk about that, shall we.
The red eyes are due to allergies, not nostalgia, really.
The haunted woods.
And wandering lane. ::sigh::
Do not pick the Lupins. Um, oops.
About a minute before I pulled out my camera to take this shot, several dozen birds erupted from this cliff and took off over the ocean. It was... there are no words.
There was more touring, some beach dwelling, and lots of shopping before we took the ferry over to Nova Scotia. I had to pee, and so we stopped at a public bathroom right next to this waterfall. Very cool.
The above picture is our hotel in Halifax. It's famous, because Oscar Wilde stayed there during his 1882 North America tour.

I think the four poster bed and pillars speak for themselves.
You have no idea how exhausted I was at this point. I think I actually nodded off waiting for our dinner.

Some of historic Halifax.
Including a church I fell in love with.
And the burying grounds, were I spent an entire half day reading while seated on someone's crypt.
We also did a brewery tour, which was... weird. Very weird.
Finally, this is the site of the December 6, 1917 Halifax Explosion. I'm a little obsessed with the subject at the moment, and, as such, am exceedingly depressed. I want to write stories about this disaster. I just need to figure out how to do that.
Anyway, that's a small sample of our trip (I actually took 357 pictures --yikes!). I think my next vacation will consist of less driving/walking and more sitting on a beach and reading. Maybe. I, oddly enough, didn't take many pictures of our drive home, despite the beauty of Maine (and Portland, btw, is my new favourite city --for serious, I need to move there), but it can be summed up as follows:
Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire are stunning, lovely states. Upstate New York bites. And then blows. And then sucks for good measure. I fucking hate that state. HATE it. But we won't get into that. Really.
